Breakfast Powers Gabby's Routine
After waking up and getting dressed, Gabby grabs a light breakfast — usually a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes®. with berries in it or the Special K® Red Berries cereal. After nourishing her body, she prepares her mind by reading until heading to the gym for her daily three-hour workout.

For Gabby, Great Starts
Run in the Family
“I started gymnastics as a bouncy little toddler by copying my older sister’s cartwheels. My mom originally didn’t want me in the sport, so I’m really glad my sisters finally convinced my mom to let me try it, too!” — Gabby Douglas

Her Great Things
As a young child, Gabby seemed destined to be a gymnast. By age 3, she had learned from her older sister how to do a perfect cartwheel. By age 4, Gabby taught herself to do a one-handed cartwheel. She began formal gymnastics training at age 6 and became the 2004 Virginia State Champion just two years later. When Gabby turned 14, she left Virginia Beach for West Des Moines, Iowa, where elite coach Liang Chow took her under his wing. With Chow’s guidance, Gabby has realized great success, including placing fourth in all-around at the 2010 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup, winning the bronze medal on uneven bars at her first Senior National Championships in 2011, and won team gold at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. In 2012, Gabby has already won gold on the uneven bars at both the Pacific Rim Championships in Everett, Washington in March and the Secrets Classic in Chicago in May. At the Visa Championships in St. Louis in June, Gabby finished second in all-around, while winning bronze for her floor routine and another gold on the uneven bars. Then, at the Olympic Trials in San Jose, Gabby secured the only guaranteed spot of the U.S. Olympic team by winning the competition.
