For Jake, Great Starts Are
Just the Beginning
“There’s no point in doing something if you’re not going to do it with purpose.” — Jake Kaminski
Where He Started Out
Elma, NY.
Where He Lives Now
Edgewater, Fla.
His Great Things
When Jake was 6 years old, he began flinging arrows in his backyard for fun. Three years later, Jake started competing in state and regional shooting tournaments and won the New York State Indoor Championships. In 2006, he finished in sixth place at the Outdoor National Championships. In 2002, Jake switched from compound archery to the more challenging recurve, the only type of archery event in the Olympics. A year of hard work paid off when Jake won the silver in New York’s Empire State Games in 2003. When Jake turned 18, he moved to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., to train under Kisik Lee, the most adorned Olympic archery coach.

An instructor himself, Kaminski is a Level 2 certified coach who has been working with young archers since 2002. Jake volunteered at his local Junior Olympic Archery Development program and continues to mentor young archers at the USA Archery Junior Dream Team camps. Kaminski and his U.S. teammates earned gold and silver during the 2010 World Cup. Most recently, he earned fourth and fifth place in the individual rankings at World Cup events and a silver medal at the World Archery Indoor Championships.
