Fighting Summer Hunger during Covid-19
An estimated 18 million kids (one in four) in the US could face hunger because of the Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Mandatory school closures earlier this year meant that students missed the school breakfast and lunch they relied on—and
accessing meals has remained challenging well into the summer months.
To help, Kellogg, the Kellogg Company Fund, our customers and community partners have supported a number of hunger initiatives this summer
through our
Kellogg's Better Days
global purpose platform.
• Kellogg and Kellogg Company Fund donated $70,000 to United Way to support programs that offer free summer breakfasts and lunches for
children in Battle Creek, Des Moines, Dallas and Seattle.
• In June, Kellogg supported regional grocer Food Lion’s “Summers Without Hunger” campaign. Food Lion shoppers who made a $5 donation to
Food Lion Feeds via a “virtual food donation backpack” triggered a matching gift of $5 in food from Kellogg and other participating brands to
the shopper’s local food bank. In all, Kellogg donated 250,000 Nutri-Grain® bars, cereals and snacks.
• Throughout July, Kellogg partnered with regional grocer Hy-Vee for the “End Summer Hunger” campaign, supporting Feeding America.
Specially marked packages of Kellogg’s® Frosted Mini-Wheats®, Kellogg’s® Club Crackers and Town House® Crackers informed shoppers that a
donation will be made to food banks in Hy-Vee communities each time that item is purchased. For each participating product purchased at Hy-Vee
stores between July 1-31, 2020, Hy-Vee is donating on behalf of Kellogg's and Keurig Dr Pepper the monetary equivalent of at least one meal
($01.10) secured by Feeding America on behalf of member food banks—up to a maximum donation of $150,000.
• Earlier this year, Kellogg donated $825,000 to No Kid Hungry to support school breakfast programs.
• Kellogg extended its annual support of Food Research & Action Center’s (FRAC) summer breakfast report and summer lunch report,
which measure successes and shortfalls in reaching hungry children in the US. FRAC also used Kellogg-sponsored funds to help summer breakfast
service in multiple locations.
To date, Kellogg has donated more than $13 million in food and funds to global COVID hunger relief efforts. Want to help, too?
