National Vegetarian Awareness Month
Spotlights Plant-Based Foods
October is National Vegetarian Awareness Month – what better time to spotlight plant-based foods? Many plant-based foods are
delicious, convenient and affordable and can be sustainable choices that help serve up protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. They even may help
support gut microbiome health.
If you’re looking to up your plant-based foods game this month and beyond, Kellogg’s got you covered. As a leading global plant-based
food company, 86% of the foods we offer are plant-based, including our cereals, snacks and meat alternatives.
1
We’re committed to sustainability and variety, too. Surprisingly, we only eat 150 of the estimated 30,000 edible plants available, and
just three main plants – corn, rice, and wheat – account for more than 50% of the food people eat globally. Growing and eating a greater
variety of plants can benefit our overall wellbeing and support a more sustainable food supply for generations to come. That’s why today,
we offer a greater variety of plant-based foods than ever containing diverse plant-based ingredients like nuts and seeds, fruits,
vegetables and beans, and grains such as barley, oats and rye.

World Food Day – How You Can Help
World Food Day is October 16, a time to recognize the issue of global food insecurity – especially during times of crisis.
This year, World Food Day takes on special significance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 690 million people are already facing
hunger and an additional 83-132 million people could go hungry this year as COVID cases continue to rise.
2
As countries around the world suffer the impacts, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the organizer of World Food
Day, is launching a call for global solidarity to help the most vulnerable people recover and
make food systems stronger, more sustainable and resilient to climate change.
We all have a role to play, from making food choices that improve our health and the health of our food systems, to not letting
sustainable habits fall by the wayside.
As always, Kellogg is honoring World Food Day globally throughout the month of October to drive awareness of the issue and to help
inspire others to make an impact.
We invite you to join us on October 13th for our
global virtual event
featuring a compelling discussion on the issue of food insecurity in a pandemic world, including how COVID-19 has impacted the global food
system from farm to table.
Here are more ways you can take action with a simple click:
