Art Meets Activism

Art and activism have a long history together. Art invites you to look at something differently. It opens up a dialogue, breaks through barriers. Art says what is difficult to put in words.

Multi-story Murals Elevate Awareness

The world is facing the greatest hunger crisis of our time. More than a quarter of a billion people globally live with food insecurity. Many in the most affected countries are facing famine. Here in the United States, there is a growing demand for food justice in Black communities. According to the New York City-based food advocacy group Just Food, food justice is “the right to grow, sell, and eat healthy food.”

Kellogg has joined forces with World Food Program USA in support of the mission of the United Nations World Food Programme and Street Art for Mankind to bring their “Zero Hunger” mural series to six cities across the nation:

• New Orleans

• Houston

• Oakland

• Detroit

• Washington, D.C.

• Battle Creek, Mich., Kellogg’s hometown.

Street Art for Mankind is a nonprofit organization uniting prominent street artists from all around the world to create spectacular murals and inspire change. “The World Food Program USA and Street Art for Mankind partner together because of the capacity of art—and our huge murals—to bring people together,” says Audrey Decker, Co-Founder of Street Art for Mankind.

To elevate the need for food justice in Black communities, which are often disproportionately impacted by food insecurity due to systemic racism, Kellogg will make a $10,000 donation to a food justice organization in each city

We invite you to join the fight for food justice three ways:

  • Learn more about food injustice and the barriers to healthy food systems in your area.

  • Support food justice programs with donations and by following them on social media.

  • Share pictures of these murals on your social media channels, using hashtags #BHEM, #cultivatefoodjustice, #ZeroHunger #StreetArtMankind
