Oil palm trees can produce up to 10 times more vegetable oil per hectare than any other crop. But wider use of this type of oil has been associated with the destruction of tropical forest habitats and peat lands. That’s why it’s so important that everyone in the food industry works together to ensure that palm oil is only grown in a responsible manner, and that forests and ecosystems are protected.
Kellogg’s has been committed to responsibly sourcing palm oil since 2009. All of the palm oil we use is certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to contribute to the production of certified sustainable palm oil. Recently the World Wildlife Fund gave Kellogg a 9 out of 9 for sustainable palm oil production, making us industry leaders in this effort.
But we aren’t stopping there. We are committed to sourcing fully traceable palm oil to known and certified plantations that are responsibly managed – and sharing our progress through our Palm Oil Milestone Report. Our goal is a future where everyone uses palm oil that was grown in ways that protect farmers, communities, animal habitats and the global environment.
