Sustainable Rice and Special K

Brandon is a member of Riceland Foods, Kellogg’s supplier of rice for products including Special K® Original cereal.  He is also a participant in the Kellogg and Riceland Foods sustainability program, which tracks continuous improvement at the farm level regarding key indicators of sustainability. This project reached almost 10,000 acres of farmland growing rice in Arkansas in 2017.

Water is critical to growing rice, as rice fields are flooded from planting to harvest. Farmers like Brandon pay attention to the land and manage this responsibly. “Farmers live sustainability. We make our living off the soils and water that flow through our area,” said Brandon.  “It’s important that we have access to that, and that we keep those areas in their natural state as much as possible.”
